Hey guys, Nikki here to tell you all about how Mind Over Macros came into fruition.

So buckle up and get comfy, we’re going to be here for a bit but I think it’s a trip worth taking!

The beginning…

When I was a teenage girl stuck in the trenches of “skinny culture”, I felt the need to be skinny and to do whatever it would take to get there.  This would include anything ranging from trendy diets to magic pills with a delusional goal in mind; to arrive at a silly number that I was given by a now arguably flawed chart used at doctors offices that is about as vague and broad as the sky is blue. That being said, I spent a good portion of my adult years eating in a calorie deficit, doing way too much cardio and caring more about a number on a scale than how I felt, how strong I was, or about the damage that I was inflicting on my mind and body in the process of chasing that ridiculous number.

The turning point…

Fast forward to 2017, the year when Nikki met CrossFit aka the year that quite literally changed the ENTIRE trajectory of life as I knew it (super dramatic, I know but I mean it, CrossFit was the missing piece to a puzzle that I was unaware I needed). I’ll save the details on the many ways that CrossFit changed my life for another day but I will include the part that I finally found a sport that felt like home. CrossFit not only encouraged but CELEBRATED woman being strong not skinny, taught you that it was okay to eat the fear mongered carbs that we’re told our whole lives we should avoid at all costs and embraced women for what their bodies could do not what their bodies looked like.

Leading up to finding CrossFit I was already on a journey to become the best version of myself through personal development and creating healthier habits around lifestyle and nutrition. However, finding CrossFit filled in the blanks for what I was missing on that journey. It also opened my eyes to the fact that the 40-60 hour work weeks I was putting in as a manager and stylist at a corporate hair salon would be short lived because I would learn quickly that my passion was not in slaving over a job that was physically and mentally draining me, but rather in coaching people through a sport that quickly became a part of me. I gave up my 10+ year career of hair dressing to start coaching CrossFit and knew that THIS was the direction I needed to be heading.

But wait, there’s more…

While coaching CrossFit was certainly a part of my journey that I knew I needed to be on, I felt something in my heart that was telling me that there was more to the story, more that I was made to do. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what that “more” looked like. I knew that I  loved the nutrition aspect of my lifestyle. I had become pretty good at learning how to fuel my body properly, and at creating easy and, in my opinion, aesthetically pleasing meal prep (give me all the Pyrex containers!).  All of this helped to create a life of discipline and routine that helped to keep me sane, on track, and much better with my time management; all things I would argue that are necessary to help ultimately to create a healthy, well rounded life.

Upon finding this new joy in my CrossFit, healthier lifestyle and nutrition journey and sharing it on my social media accounts and to anyone willing to listen. I started finding myself in the middle of many conversations with members and friends talking about their struggles. The general consensus of these conversations? Uncertainty, lack of knowledge, education and overall confidence in nutrition and personal growth development including but not limited to: physical, mental and spiritual well being.  There it lay, right in front of me, with many different faces and personalities, in the form of so many people I coached and cared about with no idea how to maneuver day to day living when it comes to balancing nutrition, exercise and overall life.

And so began the several year journey of building up the confidence and courage to get my Precision Nutrition-Level 1 nutrition coaching certification and the official birth of Mind Over Macros LLC Nutrition Coaching!

Why the name Mind Over Macros?...

I think the name kind of says it all because this certainly ain’t your average nutrition coaching where you are just thrown your macros (something most people don’t even know what those are or where to begin with them) and sent on your way. This is a lifestyle based nutrition coaching where we dig deep into all areas of your life (stress, sleep, work & home-life just to name a few that you might not have even thought to correlate with nutrition but I promise you, it ALL matters) to get to the root of what may be causing you to feel like you are failing time and time again when you try to make better choices for yourself.

We will work together, every step of the way to create a very fashionable metaphorical lifestyle tool belt while slowly building not so scary, totally do-able and sustainable daily habits that you will feel confident setting into place. Habits that you will be able to take with you and utilize for the rest of your life because if there is one huge lesson I have learned about life it is that it is a journey, not a destination and that my friends, is a beautiful thing!

I know that this journey is just beginning for me and I think if you are here and reading this (bless you) that this may be just the beginning for you too and I love that for both of us!

Thank you for reading!
